A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. It is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth.
During a root canal procedure, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, then filled with a rubber like material and sealed. This procedure is usually followed by crowns/caps.
Many people worry that a root canal will be painful, something that was true in the past but not anymore! Today, with advanced digital technology and anesthesia, root canal is a comfortable procedure.
